Dr. John Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.), is a vet who can speak with creatures. After his significant other, Lily (Kasia Smutniak) kicks the bucket adrift, Dolittle limits himself to his home, watching out for just creatures and declining to contact or help with different people. At some point, a kid named Tommy Stubbins (Harry Collett), coincidentally shoots and wounds a squirrel named Kevin (Craig Robinson), and chooses to go to Dolittle for help.
